Privacy in the training app

This covers the training app specifically. It is broader than the privacy policy on the main website, because the app holds health information and that website does not.

What is collected

  • Account details: your name, email address and password (stored only as a hash).
  • Health screening: your PAR-Q+ answers, and whether a physician has cleared you to exercise.
  • Your signed waiver, including the name you typed and the date you signed.
  • Training data: programs assigned to you and every set, rep, weight and RPE logged.
  • Progress data you choose to enter: body measurements, weekly check-ins, and any photographs you upload.
  • Messages between you and your trainer.

Why it is collected

Solely to design and deliver your training safely and to track your progress. Your health screening exists to decide whether it is safe for you to train and whether you need to see a doctor first. Your information is not sold, rented, or used for advertising.

Who can see it

You, and the trainer assigned to you. No other client can see your records. This is enforced by the application on every single request, not merely by hiding pages from view.

Your rights

Under Canadian federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act, you may ask to see the information held about you, ask for corrections, withdraw your consent, or ask for your data to be deleted. Ask your trainer and the request will be actioned. Deleting your data ends the coaching relationship, because training cannot be delivered safely without a current health screening.

Retention

Health screening records and signed waivers are kept for as long as you are a client and for a period afterwards, as required for insurance and professional-liability purposes. Everything else is deleted on request.

If something goes wrong

If your information is ever exposed in a way that creates a real risk of significant harm, you will be told, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner will be notified as the law requires.

Scope of practice

Your trainer holds a Certified Personal Trainer credential. Nutrition information provided is general education within that scope. It is not individualized medical nutrition therapy. For individualized nutrition needs or any medical condition, you will be referred to an appropriately qualified health or nutrition professional.

Draft. This notice is pending review by an Alberta professional and is not legal advice.
